Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week sees us take a look at how Kevin Kisner bounced back from disappointment at the WGC Match Play and we have a brilliant Video of the Week as some of the game's best golfers attempt to recreate a Monty special. Enjoy the read.

Competition news

Weekly Round Up

Over 130 members competed last Saturday in the final Winter Stableford, before the clocks went back. With a great score of 41 points Anthony Unsworth won Division 1 and also with 41 points Dave Connor won Division 2.

This was the first competition we had played from the Summer yellow course, set-up to its maximum length by our green keepers and the scoring was fantastic.

Yesterday the ladies competed in their first medal of the season, in nothing like summer conditions, Jenny Hurst won the 18 hole medal with a nett 76.

Senior Golf Dates

All club members aged 55yrs. and over are invited to play in any of the inter matches.

The matches scheduled for May are as follows.

13th May Bromborough Away.
20th May Wallasey Home.
23rd May Chester Away.

All are welcome and anyone wishing to play should add their name to the notice that will be displayed in the locker room 4 weeks before the match date. If you would like any further information or have a general query please get in touch.

Course news

New Flag Systems

The new season has also seen a new flag system in operation to indicate the position of the hole on the green.

Blue flags will indicate the flag is at the back of the green, yellow the middle and red the front.

Coaching news

Junior Clinics

As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter we are running Junior clinics this week on Wednesday and Friday at 1pm each day, we will also now extend this into the following week same days and time, as some schools break up next week.

Anyone interested in their child attending, please contact myself or Josh. members and non-members are welcome.

TaylorMade Fitting Day

I am delighted to let you know I have also confirmed the first of our TaylorMade fitting days for this season.

Studio Challenge

Nearly thirty members took part in our studio challenge to try and see if we could improve their game with new equipment.

The draw took place this morning and was drawn by our new General Manager, the winner was Carl Williams.

One hundred pounds worth of Callaway stock is now ready for Carl to collect.

The Masters Sweep

With The Masters only a week away now we will be running our annual Masters sweep.

Members can draw a player, out of the hat, for the price of £2 and a chance to win an Odyssey putter.

The Masters Collection

The new collection of Gents Adidas clothing has also arrived and is now displayed.

These outfits/colours will be worn by the Adidas staff players during these years Masters starting April 11th.

If at first you don’t succeed…

12-months ago, American Kevin Kisner woke up on the Monday after the WGC Match Play Championship nursing the disappointment of a thumping 7&6 final round loss to Bubba Watson.

However, this Monday, the mood in the Kisner camp was quite different after the 35-year-old overcame fellow American Matt Kuchar 3&2 to win his first WGC title and stake a major claim for a Ryder Cup berth ahead of next year's contest at Whistling Straits.

Victories over Tony Finau, Keith Mitchell, Ian Poulter (in a playoff), Haotong Li, Louis Oosthuizen and Francesco Molinari proved Kisner has the ability to go toe-to-toe with the world's elite - maybe he should have been at Le Golf National last year? The wonders of hindsight.

A world-first at the Jordan Mixed Open

This week sees the start of a revolutionary new tournament, where 40 players from each of the Ladies European Tour, Challenge Tour and StaySure Tour (over 50s) will compete against each other for one trophy and the same prize fund.

The likes of Carly Booth, Jarmo Sandelin and Phillip Price will tee it up over three rounds in a tournament that is sure to snatch the headlines. Keep an eye on next week's newsletter for our report.

Make your putting fun

Have you ever found yourself on the green with an outside shot of birdie, only to go and three-putt? Yep, we’ve all done it, however, if the thought of heading to the practice green hardly fills you with excitement, why not try a putting game to increase the fun?

1st one in wins

Ramp up the pressure with a playing partner on the practice green with a game of first one in wins. The premise is simple:

Pick two holes that are 10-foot apart
You and a playing partner stand at opposite ends (as per the picture above)
Hit putts at the same time to the other hole
Every putt that is holed is worth one point
First to three points wins

You will be amazed at how quickly you dial your putts in under pressure. Just remember, if you’re the winner, make sure you get your playing partner to treat you to a drink in the clubhouse after your round.

Spotlight: Callaway Apex (2019) irons

Irons usually get updated every couple of years, so why did it take Callaway over three years to bring a new Apex iron model to market? Well, quite simply, the Apex CF16 was a brilliant iron that took a while to improve upon.
