Competition news

Weekly Round Up

Another blustery Saturday last week, didn't stop many going out. We had a great turn out of over 100 golfers for the popular betterball competition, which saw Dominic Barnes and John Taylor win the event with 36 points over 15 holes.

This Saturday we see a first here at Caldy with a two man Texas Scramble. With the weather this week taking a turn for the worst, the course tees we play from, the number of holes and rules will be decided nearer to the competition date.

The terrible weather this Tuesday cost us another Ladies competition, next Tuesday is the March Hare Stableford played as an 18 or 9 hole competition.

In The Shop

As we edge closer to the playing season more deliveries have arrived. A fantastic range of TaylorMade trolley and carry bags have arrived.

A great chance for members to upgrade and take advantage of our £20 trade in offer. The brand new Motocaddy M1 trolleys have been delivered.

I have upgraded last year’s renal trolleys to this year’s current models. These trollies are now available for members to hire and try out if you’re interested in purchasing.

Your Chance to Win

Despite howling gales we still managed to complete a full Callaway demo day using our indoor studio. Thank you to all the members who were fitted and I hope you all see improvements in your game going forward, with the new clubs you were fitted for.

Course news

Local Rule Changes

Please could members be aware of a couple of local rule changes for the remaining winter season. We are now playing preferred lies on the greens, to allow members relief from any scarring on the greens.

Also free relief is now available from any identifiable vehicle tracks in the general area. Details of these rule changes are posted on the notice board outside my shop.

Do people finally respect Molinari?

Ryder Cup hero, Major champion, European Tour Golfer of the Year, Race to Dubai Champion, oh, and now Arnold Palmer Invitational winner thanks to a monster 44-foot putt on the 18th.

To say Italian Francesco Molinari has been hot property for the last 12 months would be an understatement, and a two-shot victory at Bay Hill on Sunday only went to confirm his status within world golf. A bogey-free eight-under 64 mirrored Rory McIlroy’s final round in 2018 when the Northern Irishman went on to win the tournament by two-shots and this time it was Molinari’s turn to repeat that feat.

2018 was undoubtedly Molinari’s breakthrough year but ahead of this year’s majors, we want know who you think will rise to the occasion in 2019 and break their major duck; head over to our website to have your say.

Listen up...

When was the last time you checked the wear-and-tear of the tyres on your car? Chances are more recently than the grips on your golf clubs. That’s understandable, but if you're looking to improve your golf game in 2019, the grips on your clubs play an equally vital role so shouldn't be overlooked.

David Leadbetter talks to Foremost TV about the importance of your grips

According to world renowned golf instructor David Leadbetter, you should be re-gripping your clubs ‘at least every year, but ideally after every 40 rounds of golf’. This is because UV light, dirt, and general use cause your grips to lose tackiness and traction, which results in an increase in grip tension, leading to reduced clubhead speed and distance.

So, what do you need to look for? - ‘If you see wear marks such as indentations or your grips look shiny, then they are past their due date’. Great advice from one of the most respected golf coaches in the world!
