Competition news

Weekly Round Up

Another great turnout for last Saturdays Betterball Stableford, in which Bill May and Jim Smith, were successful with a terrific winning score of 41 points, to pip Adrian Patterson and Paul Fleming into second place with 38 points. This Saturday is a Foursomes Stableford competition, again played over 15 holes from the blue tees. There are still places available if members wish to play with a few groups needing playing partners.

This Tuesday we had yet again another bad day of weather, with seventeen ladies braving conditions to play in the nine hole Stableford. Congratulations to Carolyn Marchbank who won with 20 points.

An Exciting Delivery

With all the recent social media hype and excitement we are finally getting close to product launch times. Callaway have now released product from their factory and I am expecting a large delivery of new drivers, woods, rescues and bags today.

With this in mind I have arranged an earlier than usual demo day with Callaway Demo Day on Wednesday 13th March between 11am and 3pm.

I expect this event to fill very quickly so please book your appointment as soon as possible. Fitting sessions last 30 minutes and are free of charge.

A Surprise Visit

On Saturday evening just gone the members of Caldy were treated to a surprise visit by the Claret jug, the trophy presented to the winner of the Open Championship, thanks kindly to our Past Captain David Reid, who brought the trophy into the dining room on route to an evening dinner were the trophy was to be on show.

Course news

Snow is Falling

We were able to open four of the new greens for a second successive weekend recently, despite the inclement weather, largely thanks to the effort of our greens staff.

The recent snow fall we have received today has unfortunately closed the golf course, Carl and his team will make every effort to get the course open as soon as possible but members are advised that restrictions on trolleys and buggies may come into place.

We will keep you posted through daily emails when appropriate.

Studio news

Studio Promotion Competition

To help promote the new fitting clubs, we have decided to run the following competition.

Between now and the Captains drive in on Sunday the 31st March, we would like to offer members the chance to come into the studio and have a half hour driver comparison session.

Bring in your current driver into the studio and allow us to see if we can improve your driving statistics with one of the new Callaway or TaylorMade models, No Obligation To Buy.

Sessions will only cost £10, all the names of those who take up the challenge will be put into a hat and drawn, with the winner winning £100 of Callaway or TaylorMade products of their own choice.

Are new clubs the key?

It was the perfect start to 2019 for world number one Justin Rose, as he won the Farmers Insurance Open by three shots at Torrey Pines to claim his tenth victory on the PGA Tour. Rose, who has switched club manufacturers this season, showed no signs of rustiness as he drove and putted superbly throughout the week, with every round finishing in the 60s. He had a brief wobble in the final round, with three bogeys in his opening five holes, but his nearest challenger in Adam Scott was unable to capitalise.

Whilst there would have been some eyebrows raised at Rose’s decision to switch up the clubs in his bag having just reached the pinnacle of golf, his victory shows that even the world’s best can keep on finding ways to improve their game through a change of gear in the bag.
