Hello and welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week, we take a look at a fan-favourite's second win on tour this season, whilst giving you the rundown on how we can help you get the most out of your game through our coaching and fitting services.

Competition news

Weekly Round Up

Congratulations to the team of Jake and Derek Hughes and Mark and Lewis Johanson, the team of four combined well to produce a total nett score of 100, to win the very popular coloured ball medal competition by five shots from Ray Hughes, Colin Thomas, Simon Fitzpatrick and Paul Hirst. Even managing to keep hold of the coloured ball for all 18 holes.

This Saturday coming is a winter Stableford, which will be played from the RED tees, using the red stroke index and pars for each hole.

Please be aware when marking your score card. This event will be a non-qualifying event for handicap purposes but will provide us an opportunity to play a different winter course.

Traditional Coffee Morning

The Ladies enjoyed their traditional coffee morning yesterday morning, raising a lot of money for the Lady Captains charity, all feeling refreshed and ready for next week’s three clubs and a putter Stableford.

Studio news

Fitting Clubs

We have now received earlier than expected most of our Callaway and TaylorMade fitting clubs. This will allow us to offer a premium service for custom fitting both brands in our SkyTrak studio.

With the great advantage of being able to take the clubs onto the course afterwards to test them under real pressure.

Studio Promotion Competition

To help promote the new fitting clubs, we have decided to run the following competition.

Between now and the Captains drive in on Sunday the 31st March, we would like to offer members the chance to come into the studio and have a half hour driver comparison session.

Bring in your current driver into the studio and allow us to see if we can improve your driving statistics with one of the new Callaway or TaylorMade models, No Obligation To Buy.

Sessions will only cost £10, all the names of those who take up the challenge will be put into a hat and drawn, with the winner winning £100 of Callaway or TaylorMade products of their own choice.

Tour news

Not all plain sailing

It was a 9th PGA Tour win for tour favourite Matt Kuchar, as he claimed victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Kuchar carded a final round of 66, finishing on -22, four shots clear of Andrew Putnam in second place. It wasn’t all plain sailing for Kuchar, with bogeys in three of his first five holes on Sunday, but a resurgent back-nine saw a comfortable win in the end.

It was Kuchar’s second win on tour this season, just 64 days after winning the Mayakoba Classic in November; a real change in fortunes, when you consider he had to wait four years between his seventh and eighth PGA Tour victories.

On the Ladies European Tour, England’s Charley Hull took a wire-to-wire triumph at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi, for her second win on tour. It was a real test of nerve at the finish, with Hull splashing out of a bunker on the 18th, before saving par with a great putt to give her the win by one stroke.

There’s no such thing as bad weather for golf – just a poor choice of clothing. You might have got away with the old ‘raincheck’ excuse a few years ago, but golf clothing has come a long way since then. All you need to do is make sure you’re properly layered up with golf-specific garments and you’re good to go.
